E-Book Overview
The essays which follow deal with the three major novels of George Meredith. I will be addressing two questions which are ultimately related. These questions are, first, in what ways do Meredith's novels deviate from the conventional narrative patterns of English fiction? and, second, how does Meredith's feminism affect his writing? I will be arguing that the unconventionality of Meredith's novels reflects the unconventionality of his vision of social relationships.
