Thus, this text is founded upon the assumption that addictions assessment is more than a one-time paperwork procedure, conducted at the onset of treatment to simply gather minimal facts and secure a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th Edition)-Text Revision (2000) (DSM-IV-TR) diagnosis to fulfill Medicaid billing requirements. I view assessment and counseling as one. Neither is exclusive of the other or operating in a neutral vacuum.
