In 1998 Brazil was the honored guest country at the International Book Fair in Paris, and one of the round tables that was organized on this occasion by the Syndicat National de L’Édition, of which I had the honor of participating, was entitled “the eventful journey of love in the relationship between France and Brazil.” It seems that this title could also be applied to this book by José Borzacchiello da Silva about the relationship between French and Brazilian geography, as evidenced in the words that he uses to describe the phases in this relationship: “approximations”, “distancing”, “exclusivities”, “ruptures”. There is actually much kindness and even much passion, at times disappointed, in the long history of this couple which inevitably has had its ups and downs. José Borzacchiello da Silva discusses these phases in detail, offering a unique periodization in which the founding of USP in 1934 and the UGI congress in
