The Najkhin dialect belongs to the middle Amur dialect of the language, and has become a basis of the literary Nanai.
It is spoken in Najkhin, which is 136 kilometers northeast of the city of Khabarovsk. Similar to the cases of other minority peoples' languages, the number of speakers who can speak Nanai is decreasing rapidly every year.
According to the 2002 Russia population census, there were 12,160 Nanais, but the number of Nanai speakers is estimated to be much less than that.
The Nanai population and number of Nanai speakers in China are much smaller than those in Russia.
