Machine Design: Solutions Manual
E-Book Overview
3rd edition. — Pearson, 2006. — 1272 p.
This manual contains 530 problem solutions in 14 chapters. Ninety-eight of the problem stems refer to tables containing multiple sets of input data that provide up to 14 variants on the same problem. When these variants are included, there are 1339 problems available for assignment (not including the projects in Chapters 3, 8, 11, 13, and 14). Solutions for the first data row to the multi-problem stems are included in the printed manual. Tables of answers to the remaining problems in the set are printed in an appendix at the end of each chapter in which there are multi-problem stems. On each chapter title page there is a topic/problem matrix that relates the problems to the topical sections in the text. Although problems may require knowledge from prior sections, there is at least something from the section in which they are listed that is required for solution. The projects in Chapters 3, 8, 11, 13, and 14 are suggested as multi-week or term-long assignments and do not lend themselves to the presentation of solutions in a manual of this type since their open-ended nature allows for a wide variety of solutions.<strong>Contents Preface <strong>Fundamentals Introduction to Design Materials and Processes Load Determination Stress, Strain, and Deflection Static Failure Theories Fatigue-Failure Theories Surface Failure <strong>Machine Design Design Case Studies Shafts, Keys, and Couplings Bearings and Lubrication Spur Gears Helical, Bevel, and Worm Gears Spring Design Screws and Fasteners Clutches and Brakes Appendix Cross-Sectional Properties Appendix Mass Properties Appendix Material Properties Appendix Beam Tables Appendix Stress-Concentration Factors Appendix Conversion Factors Appendix Answers to Selected Problems Appendix List of Software Included on CD-ROM Index
