This book is dedicated to the heroes on the front line of victim aid — all emergency medical technicians, law enforcement personnel, firefighters, victim counselors, victim’ s rights advocates and sexual assault centers. Ultimately our greatest teachers are the ones we regret acknowledging. The victims and the survivors. The individuals who have perished or suf fered great losses at the hands of the predators of the world. Their suffering has provided the data that we use hopefully to save lives. In a perfect world we would gladly run out of these teachers, but the world isn’t perfect, and it is because of this imperfection that I of fer this book. My sympathy goes to the victims and their families.

The fighting arts include contact and can be dangerous. Use proper equipment and train safely. Practice with restraint and respect for your partners. Drill for fun, fitness and to improve skills. Do not fight with the intent to do harm.
