In 1934 he transferred to the labor department where he was responsible Benjamin M. Schowe. (Gallaudet Col 2 Schowe, Benjamin Marshall, Sr. for researching issues on labor relations, economics, and law. In 1942 he changed over to the economics department as labor economist research specialist. During this time, though, he also continued to counsel deaf employees in the company and interview deaf applicants. He retired in October 1958 from Firestone, for whom he had worked for nearly 40 years. During his years with Firestone, Schowe became well known for his articles on employment counseling with regard to deaf workers in the factory setting. His publications regarding the topic of deaf employment were distributed to potential employers nationwide. One publication was funded and cosponsored by the Federal Security Agency and the Office ofVocational Rehabilitation. In 1951 Schuwe wrote an article, "Guidelines for the Employment of Deaf Workers," for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.
