Marton with the title Advances in Electronics. By that time, Marton was at the National Bureau of Standards (now renamed the National Institute of Standards and Technology) but his earlier career had been intimately involved with the development of the transmission electron microscope. In Brussels, he began building electron microscopes in 1932 and published the first primitive images of biological specimens two years later. During the wartime years, he was a major actor in several microscope projects in the United States and, not surprisingly, many contributions to the early volumes of the Adiiances dealt with aspects of electron optics and microscopy. Soon, however, the range widened and the name was then changed to Adr~ances in Electronics and Electron Physics (AEEP), to reflect this bro
