Global Warming and East Asia Global Warming and East Asia analyses the domestic politics, foreign policy and international relations of climate change in East and Southeast Asia. The countries of this important region are often disproportionately affected by global warming and climate change, and as their economies grow they make these problems worse. The contributors investigate the increasingly widespread and disparate efforts to address global warming at international, national and local levels, and in so doing increase our understanding of a region vital to mitigating and coping with climate change. This unique volume includes in-depth studies of China and Japan, two of the most important countries in East Asia with regard to global warming, and examines the role of other East and Southeast Asian countries, such as Indonesia and the Philippines, in combating the problem. Paul G. Harris is an associate professor of politics at Lingnan University, Hong Kong, and director of the Project on Environmental Change and Foreign Policy. Environmental politics/Routledge research in environmental politics Edited by Matthew Paterson Keele University Graham Smith University of Southampton Over recent years environmental politics has moved from a peripheral interest to a central concern within the discipline of politics. This series aims to reinforce this trend through the publication of books that investigate the nature of contemporary environmental politics and show the centrality of environmental politics to the study of politics per se. The series understands politics in a broad sense and books will focus on mainstream issues such as the policy process and new social movements as well as emerging areas such as cultural politics and political economy. Books in the series will analyse contemporary political practices with regard to the environment and/or explore possible future directions for the ‘greening’ of contemporary politics. The series will be of interest not only to academics and students working in the environmental field, but will also demand to be read within the broader discipline. The series consists of two strands: Environmental politics addresses the needs of students and teachers, and the titles will be published in paperback and hardback.
