INFORM ATION TO USERS
This was produced from a copy o f a d o cu m en t sent to us fo r microfilm ing. While the m ost advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this docum ent have been used, the q u ality is heavily d ep en d en t upon th e quality o f th e m aterial su b m itte d . The Following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand m arkings o r notations w hich may appear on this reproduction. 1 .T h e sign o r “ target” for pages apparently lacking from the docum ent photographed is “ Missing Page(s)” . If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with ad jacen t pages. This may have necessitated cu ttin g through an image and duplicating adjacent pages to assure you o f com plete co n tin u ity . 2. When an image on the film is obliterated w ith a ro u n d black m ark it is an indication th a t the film insp ecto r noticed e ith e r blurred copy because of m ovem ent during exposure, o r duplicate copy. Unless we m ean t to delete copyrighted m aterials th at should n o t have been film ed, you will find a good image o f the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a m ap, drawing o r chart, etc., is part o f the m aterial being p h o to graphed the p h o tographer has follow ed a definite m ethod in “ sectioning” the material. It is custom ary to begin filming at the upper left h an d corner o f a large sh e e t and to con tin u e from left to right in equal sections with small overlaps. I f necessary, sectioning is continued again—beginning below the first row and continuing on until com plete. 4. F o r any illustrations th a t can n o t be reproduced satisfactorily by xerography, photographic p rin ts can be purchased at additional cost and tipped into y o u r xerographic copy. R equests can be m ade to our Dissertations C ustom er Services D epartm ent. 5. Some pages jn any docum ent m ay have indistinct print. In all cases we have filmed the best available copy.
