It also provides a Chart of Ratification of basic human rights instruments as at 1st June 1995, as well as a synoptical table on related articles in major human rights instruments. The Pocket Guide has been designed with two major aims: as a quick reference material for government officials responsible for the preparation and drafting of reports required under international human rights treaties, and for judges, practitioners, teachers and students in law; as a practical tool for other governmental and non-governmental organizations who are interested in promoting the diffusion of knowledge and an increased awareness of international human rights standards. The Pocket Guide is the result of the joint effort of the UN Centre for Human Rights and the International Training Centre of the ILO. It is our sincere hope that this new tool will effectively contribute to the promotion and the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
